Arissty Luzon Julian, an Operations Supervisor at DP World Caucedo, tells the story of how education has helped him achieve his dreams right in his hometown port.
“I’m an Operations Supervisor at the DP World Caucedo port in the Dominican Republic, after joining the organisation back in 2009. It is poignant for me to work here as it is my hometown, and I was born in the hospital 200 metres away from the port!
“I’m proud to be part of the DP World family. It has been a dream come true for me to join the company and be a part of this city’s evolution. My 13 years here have shown me that you can achieve whatever you set your mind to. There are no limits – only the ones we create in our minds.
“One thing that has stuck with me from my university days is a quote by Whitney M. Young: “It’s better to be prepared for an opportunity and not have one than to have an opportunity and not be prepared.”
Achieving Your Dreams Through Education
“That’s why, only eight months after starting in 2009 as a Stevedore/Longshoreman, I got my first promotion to a cargo control Tally Clerk within the Operations Department. Within a year of that, I got another promotion to Vessel Dispatcher and five years later I moved up to my current position as an Operations Supervisor.
“To be a manager at this company is my ultimate dream and God willing, I will achieve it. DP World has not only supported my professional journey but also my educational endeavours by helping me achieve a degree in Business Administration through their education assistance programme.
“All I can say is, in this job every day is different. I’m always learning something new or passing on my learnings to different teams.
