DP World's journeyin India

Our journey reflects more than three decades of building resilient ports, logistics networks and seamless global trade connectivity. Our comprehensive range of products and services covers every link of the integrated supply chain.

1997

Public-Private Partnership with Government of India

In 1997 we collaborated with the Government of India through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) to take the country’s Export & Import (EXIM) trade to new horizons of growth. Through this historic partnership at India’s largest gateway port – Jawaharlal Nehru Port Terminal (JNPT), Mumbai – we became the first private container terminal operator in India.

1999

DP World Ports & Terminals Nhava Sheva

We commenced operations of Nhava Sheva International Container Terminal (NSICT) at JNPT, Mumbai in 1999. We built state-of-the-art infrastructure and brought cutting-edge technology to the country’s largest container port.

2001

DP World Ports & Terminals Chennai

We added the Chennai Container Terminal (CCT) to our portfolio in 2001. Equipped with a Container Freight Station with 6,500 sq. m. of covered area, it caters to southern India’s container market of 4.5 million TEUs and also enables transshipment of cargo to hinterland destinations such as Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kochi, and the wider region.

2003

DP World Ports & Terminals Mundra

Since 2003, Mundra Port in Gujarat has enabled access to trade across north and northwest India. Mundra International Container Terminal, India’s first greenfield container terminal at a minor port, offers integrated CFS, warehousing and container yard facilities.

2005

DP World Ports & Terminals Kochi

India’s first and only transshipment terminal at the port of Kochi was set up in 2005. With an investment of USD 243 million, India Gateway Terminal Private Limited (IGTPL) serves as the gateway to the vast industrial and agricultural markets of the south and west.

2007

More than a terminal operator: DP World’s integrated supply chain solutions

In keeping with our endeavor to reach out to customers beyond terminal gates and offer integrated supply chain solutions, we invested in seven brand-new BLC rakes that commenced operations in 2007. We have added rakes to our fleet, which connect major hinterland depots across Delhi NCR, Ludhiana and Ahmedabad to key gateway ports on the West Coast.

2013

Expansion at JNPT, Mumbai

In 2013 we signed a concession agreement to build the Nhava Sheva (India) Gateway Terminal (NSIGT), our second container terminal at JNPT, embarking on a capacity expansion drive. Semi-automated and equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure and digital technology, the container terminal commenced operations in 2015.

2017

Record milestone accomplished
DP World became the first container port operator in India to successfully handle 50 million TEUs of cargo. We consolidated our existing ports and rail assets through the creation of Hindustan Ports Private Limited (HPPL), a wholly owned subsidiary of DP World.

2018

Multifold expansion of services

DP World strengthened its India logistics footprint through the USD 3 billion HIPL platform with NIIF, strategic acquisitions in warehousing and freight, addition of cold chain capabilities, and development of a Free Trade & Warehousing Zone at JNPT, Mumbai.

2019

Addition of rail terminals
DP World acquired a 76% stake in Kribhco Infrastructure Limited (KRIL) in India, adding three more inland rail terminals to our portfolio and the capability to operate double stack rail operations.

2020

New businesses
We entered new business segments with Freight Forwarding, Contract Logistics and Domestic Rail services.

2021

CARGOES.com
DP World launched our digital logistics platform CARGOES.com, offering a broad array of digital logistics products including trade finance.

2022

Strengthening our partnership with NIIF
We extended our partnership with the National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF), making it a shareholder in HPPL.
