    OUR HISTORY

    Building on a legacy of 125 years of trade at Novi Sad

    1910

    Port of Novi Sad established
    Trade on the Danube in Novi Sad dates back centuries, but 1910 marks the formal establishment of the port. Located on the city’s left bank, it quickly became the largest trading port by volume in former Yugoslavia between the world wars.

    1957

    Waterside Transport Company formed
    Post-war, local authorities created the Waterside Transport Company to manage berthing, transport, and warehousing on the Danube’s right bank, including both bonded and public storage.

    1959

    Pristaništa i skladišta Novi Sad founded
    Renamed as “Ports and Warehousing Novi Sad,” the company began to operate independently. Large-scale dredging prepared the site on the Danube-Tisa-Danube Canal for a modern cargo quay.

    1963

    Land granted for permanent port development
    The City of Novi Sad allocated over 45 hectares of land for the construction of the new port and warehousing zone. Three million cubic metres of sand were used to prepare the site for development.

    1969

    Integrated into Heroj Pinki
    To accelerate investment and growth, Pristaništa i skladišta became part of the larger industrial company Heroj Pinki. Over the next decade, berthing infrastructure, roads, cranes, and utilities were constructed.

    1983

    Luka Novi Sad becomes independent
    Authorities separated quay operations and warehousing from Heroj Pinki. A new standalone company, Luka Novi Sad, was formed and has operated independently under this name ever since.

    1984

    Recognised as an international port
    The Federal Government declared Novi Sad an international port, strengthening its position on the Danube as a strategic transit hub for regional and global trade.

    2001

    Serbia reopens to international trade
    Following years of UN sanctions and geopolitical isolation, the Port of Novi Sad resumed full operations. The Danube became a vital route for Serbia’s reintegration into global supply chains.

    2019

    DP World acquires Port of Novi Sad
    DP World entered the Serbian market by acquiring the country’s only state-owned port. With direct access to River Corridor VII and Road and Rail Corridor X, the terminal is now part of DP World's integrated logistics network across Europe and beyond.
