WHY IT MATTERS
OUR NET ZERO TARGETS

JOURNEY TO NET ZERO

The key milestones we have set on our path to net zero, guide how we cut emissions and build a more sustainable future across our global operations.

OUR CLIMATE CHANGE LOGISTICS SOLUTIONS

We’re making tangible progress on sustainability by cutting emissions, boosting efficiency, and investing in cleaner infrastructure across our global network.

Equipment electrification

We’re scaling electrification across our fleet, with proof of concept for electric terminal tractors and straddle carriers, and integrating renewable energy into future project design.

Renewable energy procurement

In 2024, 65% of our electricity came from renewables. We reached 100% in nine countries and completed the Middle East’s largest rooftop solar project at Jebel Ali.

Increased equipment efficiency

We track OEE data to identify inefficiencies, optimise operations, and cut emissions. In Callao alone, digitalisation and process improvements saved over 1,000 tonnes of CO₂.

STRATEGIC REDUCTION PILLARS

ACHIEVING NET ZERO

Our five strategic reduction pillars aim to advance our decarbonisation and climate change mitigation strategy across Scope 1 and 2, with three more levers designed to manage our Scope 3 emissions.

THE IMPACT OF OUR CLIMATE CHANGE SOLUTIONS

We’re turning bold ideas into practical end-to-end solutions that cut emissions, boost efficiency, and build resilience. This is how we’re shaping a more sustainable future.

Terminal operations at Jebel Ali terminal

Retrofitting Terminal Tractors

We’re retrofitting 30% of terminal tractors in Jebel Ali with electric components by 2028, reducing diesel use, lowering emissions, and extending vehicle lifespan.

Forklift in warehouse

Intelligent Storage Systems

Our BoxBay system triples yard capacity, cuts reshuffling, runs on solar, and uses electric cranes. Since 2016, we’ve invested $4B in technology to boost efficiency.

Sustainably Sourced HVO

Switching to Hydro-treated Vegetable Oil (HVO) in the UK has cut carbon by 90%, saving 14,000 tonnes annually. Southampton and London Gateway are now fully HVO powered.

Green rice field

Regenerative Agriculture

In partnership with Boomitra, we remove CO₂ through regenerative farming. Our Ocean Strategy restores mangroves and protects biodiversity in key coastal zones.

Ecuador Posorja Mangrove Restoration Project

Mangroves in Ecuador

We’ve planted over 200,000 mangroves with CALISUR, capturing 3M tonnes of CO₂, equal to the output of 950 wind turbines, while protecting coastlines and communities.

Windmill

Renewable Energy Certification

Our Chile team uses 100% renewable energy, avoiding 7.8 kilotonnes of CO₂ annually. Globally, 18 of our sites now run on, or are close to, fully renewable power.

Solar panels

Powering the Horn of Africa

Berbera port in Somaliland is powered by 8MW of solar via Berbera Electric Company, reducing emissions and supporting growth into a green regional trade hub.

CLIMATE CHANGE STRATEGIES FAQs

DP World addresses climate change by mitigating disruptions in supply chains caused by extreme weather, rising sea levels, and temperature shifts. Our proactive measures ensure resilience and reliability in global trade logistics.

DP World is dedicated to achieving net zero emissions by 2050, focusing on decarbonising operations through electrification, renewable energy, and efficiency. Initiatives include low-carbon fuels, electrified equipment, and partnerships like ZEPA.

At DP World, we are currently working on plenty of climate change mitigation strategies. In 2024, we reached a 65% renewable electricity supply across the group, enhancing and fostering a cleaner, resilient supply chain.

DP World tackles climate change mitigation by focusing on reducing carbon emissions through cleaner tech and renewable energy sources. We also emphasise adaptation, to enhance infrastructure resilience to future climate impacts.
