Multimodal transport combines road, rail and sea to move goods more efficiently. By using each mode where it works best, we can shift more freight from road to rail and sea. This helps reduce emissions while maintaining reliable connections across the network. The result is a more sustainable way to move goods from origin to destination.
Shift
Where feasible, we move transport from road to rail or sea (ferry/shortsea). This reduces the distance travelled by road and lowers emissions at the source.
Optimise
We support customers in planning their loads and choosing suitable transport equipment, helping maximise payload per trailer. This is combined with route planning for the final leg from terminal to destination.
Decarbonise
For the remaining road kilometres, whether a short final leg or a full route where road is the only option, we apply alternative, low-carbon fuels or electric solutions.
