Surcharges

The BAF is updated on a monthly basis. It is applicable for shortsea only, and the level is based on the average price for the range in the previous period.

The monthly BAF will be stated no later than the 25th and will become effective on the 1st of the following month. Concerning other air pollutants, Multimodal Solutions meets the strict environmental standards that apply to the North Sea and the Baltic Sea in all its operations. Multimodal Solutions also takes an active part in the work for environmental improvements at sea through the Danish Shipowners' Association and supports the Danish Shipowners' Association's climate charter. BAF is calculated on the collection date.

Bunker costs (EUR) are based on:

• Average bunker costs: Marine Gas Oil (MGO) FOB Barges 0.1% high Rotterdam.
• Converted into EUR from USD at a daily rate of exchange, based on European Central Bank (ECB), official rates.
• Based on the source: Platts, Bunkerwire, daily issue. 'Platts is the leading global provider of energy and metals information, and the world's foremost source of price assessments in the physical energy markets.'
• Environmental and handling costs vary monthly due to the conflict in the Middle East, resulting in corresponding changes to the percentage additions applied to the FOB Barges Platts Index.

The Ferry Operator Bunker Surcharge is implemented to cover the increase in fuel prices for shipments via ferry.

It is updated on a monthly basis and will be applied for the following month.

Below are the Fuel Surcharge percentages for intermodal and road transport. The percentage is updated weekly.

For customers operating under the Fuel Surcharge mechanism, the March rate of 2.53% is frozen until further notice, supplemented by a weekly Emergency Fuel Escalator.

• The average diesel price: 2.192 per litre for week 34.
• The average diesel price: 2.155 per litre for week 35. 

*If the minimum average is lower than 1.531, then no surcharge will be added.
**The average diesel price of the prior month will correspond with the percentage linked to that specific bracket.
The Fuel surcharge is based on P&O Ferrymasters' Average Automotive Diesel Price (per 1000 litre incl. tax).

The EFS is implemented to cover the increase in fuel prices for land transport on shortsea bookings.

It is updated monthly and follows the EU-27 Diesel price (including taxes) index (Weekly Oil Bulletin), based on the monthly average price observed between the 20th of the previous month and the 19th of the current month. It will be applied for the following month. 

An Energy Surcharge is applied for every full load transported by rail on the following corridors. The surcharge is updated monthly.

The GHG surcharge applies for all shipments in Multimodal Solutions equipment (containers and trailers). The surcharge is updated monthly. The first GHG Surcharge is based on the price of the European Union Allowance (EUA).
