DP World staff plants 160 trees in food forest

During a tree building, an ecologically responsible team building, port company DP World planted 160 trees in the Food Forest in Sint-Gillis-Waas, not far from the Antwerp Gateway terminal at the Deurganck dock. Management planted black alder and apple and pear trees. The food forest contains edible perennial crops with the aim of creating sustainable food production.

Under the direction of the food forest expert, the trees were carefully planted, fertilized and packed to protect them from rodents.During corporate volunteering, DP World employees can commit themselves to a socially relevant cause. The treebuilding was set up by Give a Day, an organization that matches companies with volunteer work, and the non-profit organization FFI (Food Forest Institute), a Belgian organization that is committed to developing food forests.

Stijn Meeus, HR Director at DP World, said:“Rolling up our sleeves together in nature ensures we are making a visible impact in the short and long term. In times when teleworking is the norm, it was great to be able to meet in the open air again. In the spring of 2023, we hope to reap the fruits from our self-planted trees along with members of the local community.”
