BoxBay represents a new and intelligent High Bay Storage (HBS) system. It is an international joint venture by DP World and industrial engineering specialists SMS Group that aims to change the way that containers are handled in ports with smart innovation.
Increased capacity
The patented rack structure delivers the same capacity as a conventional terminal using only a third of the space. Containers are robotically moved and stacked up to eleven stories high in a fully automated grid.
Improved efficiency
BoxBay removes the need for reshuffling by giving direct access to every container. It improves handling speed, lowers energy use, and cuts operating costs while boosting safety and uptime.
Built to perform
The system handles units weighing up to 50 tonnes in racks as high as 50 metres. This breakthrough technology combines strength and intelligence to meet the demands of modern port operations.
FUELLED FOR THE FUTURE
DP World is piloting Canada’s first hydrogen-powered fuel cell crane at its Port of Vancouver terminal, redefining what clean port operations can look like.
This zero-emission rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) crane uses hydrogen fuel cells in place of diesel engines, offering the same power and performance with none of the carbon emissions. The pilot project is designed to assess long-term viability, with real-time data monitoring its efficiency, safety, and sustainability.
Set against Vancouver’s push for green innovation, this milestone is more than a trial—it’s a glimpse into the future of decarbonised cargo handling.
