'Kal Ki Kaksha': Computer-Aided Literacy and Digital Literacy as a life skill

'Kal Ki Kaksha' is our digital education program in association with Pratham Infotech Foundation. Designed for primary and middle school students in Government and low-income private schools, DP World’s 'Kal Ki Kaksha' was launched in 2017-18.

This program targets girls in equal ratio to boys and involves women trainers. Through this program we aim to increase digital literacy and provide students with a platform that encourages collaborative learning, developing a sustainable path for a better learning experience.

Since the launch, we have achieved a target of enrolling 8,000 students from 40 schools across four states – Maharashtra (Nhava Sheva), Gujarat (Mundra), Tamil Nadu (Chennai) and Kerala (Kochi). Through 'Kal Ki Kaksha', DP World aims to ensure that every child is digitally literate, and students in rural areas have access to basic education with new-age technology.

Along with students, the program also conducts a training program for schoolteachers, and trains the local youth on the use of computers through a program called ‘Digital Sakshar’.

Reconstruction of RZP Khopate School Building

DP World’s education programs are run with the motto ‘Changing Lives, Changing the Future’. Keeping this in mind, we have supported the renovation and modernization of a 120-year-old district-level school building in Maharashtra, India.

The construction of the Raigad Zilla Parishad School in Maharashtra is currently underway. Once completed, the new building will have 15 classrooms, five administrative rooms, a computer laboratory, a science laboratory, play spaces and storerooms, a multi-purpose hall, and eight separate toilets for boys and girls.

The new infrastructure will support not only the education of current students who are mostly from low-income families and marginalized sections of communities, but will also be a long-term asset for generations of students to come.

Skill development for sustainable livelihood

As part of our focus on skill development, DP World has been organizing various programs to empower youth with employable skills and help them overcome the economic impact of Covid-19. With the help of our various implementation partners, we have organized several CSR initiatives, including training for Bedside Assistants (Partner – Blind People’s Association), Solar Technicians (Partner – Neesa Skill Development), courses in garment making and fashion designing (Partner – Arunodhaya Centre for Street and Working Children), a Diploma in Computer Application (Partner – Arunodhaya Centre for Street and Working Children), and training courses in logistics and warehousing (Partner – TeamLease Education Foundation).

We aim to develop workplace-ready young professionals by imparting practical knowledge and hands-on experience to the trainees through these short-term courses. We also emphasize upon enrolling young women and members of disadvantaged sections of society for these courses. After successful completion of these training programs, DP World will provide further support to trainees with employment and entrepreneurship opportunities.

Road safety through CCTV installation

In our endeavor to increase road safety among the general public and truck drivers in the coastal roads around Chennai port, we have launched a road safety awareness campaign. As part of the project, we have installed 120 CCTV cameras and displayed more than 90 road safety messages around Chennai Port.  The campaign is conducted in collaboration with Chennai City Traffic Police, the Road Transport Authority (RTO), and local NGO Sevalaya.

The road safety violations are monitored through CCTV and are recorded and displayed to the public for creating awareness and avoiding accidents in the future.
