Regional Initiatives
Affordable & Clean Energy
Solar street lights
As part of our efforts to boost the production and use of affordable energy in the country, we have undertaken some major initiatives over the years. We have installed 436 solar streetlights across villages in Mundra and Navi Mumbai to provide an energy-efficient source of electricity and improve quality of life in local communities. In addition to enhancing security at night, this initiative is also enabling the local residents to extend their activities into the evening hours.
1 kilowatt solar off-grid systems have also been installed in 10 forest guard camps in Kanha Tiger Reserve, Madhya Pradesh. These are anti-poaching camps set up at strategic points to thwart the threat of wild animals. Since these are often located in remote parts of the reserve with no electricity connection, the solar integrated system addresses the electricity need in these camps.
Solar-powered water pumping system
Extending our efforts to promote the adoption of clean and affordable energy in the country, we have installed a solar-powered water pumping system at the Tukaram Hari Wajekar Higher Secondary School at Phunde in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra.
Electricity generation through solar power
In line with our vision to contribute to the production of renewable energy in the country, we have established a solar-based grid-tied power plant system at the Veer Wajekar Arts, Science and Commerce College located at Phunde village, in the Uran–Raigad district of Maharashtra. The system is directly benefiting 4,000 students studying in the school and college.
We have also set up a 135 kWp solar unit at the Shree Bidada Sarvodaya Trust, with the aim of generating electricity through solar power. Shree Bidada Sarvodaya is a nonprofit charitable organization that provides medical aid to the people of rural Kutch. Both these projects have reduced local dependence on grid power supply.
