MORE SUSTAINABLE
OPERATIONS

From being the home of the world’s first all-electric berth, and deploying Europe’s first ultra-high-power charging system for ports, to our work with charities to improve the health of our marine environment, DP World London Gateway port ensures our operations create real-world, long-term benefits for the people and places around us, and beyond.

Energy Transition Contribution

DP World UK has invested in many measures to enable sustainable trade across our operations. We have made significant progress to reduce carbon emissions through maximising efficiency, using renewable energy and displacing fossil fuels and introducing innovative decarbonisation initiatives to help customers reduce their Scope 3 emissions with further projects in the pipeline.

Our Energy Transition Contribution (ETC) supports cleaner energy choice by funding the transition from diesel to alternatives like Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) and electricity. Programmes such as our Modal Shift Programme, Carbon Inset Programme and our latest Low Carbon Truck Trial are driving change to greener, cleaner modes of freight and fulfillment for cargo owners and transport providers to actively reduce their Scope 3 emissions in a verified and impactful way.

To continue to contribute towards the energy transition investments, the Energy Transition Contribution will be reviewed on a regular basis at both DP World UK ports.

London Gateway Ports And Terminals FAQs

Being located within the Thames Freeport, our London Gateway Logistics Park provides businesses with faster access, lower costs, and greater flexibility for smarter trade. With our tools, resources, and expertise, we streamline operations to ensure seamless supply chains and shipments from start to finish.

One of the key ways we support shipping and logistics across the UK and beyond is through our Vehicle Booking System (VBS). This system allows registered haulers to schedule and manage appointments for collecting or delivering containers at times that suit your business. By coordinating bookings efficiently, we help reduce delays and streamline shipping operations for everyone involved.

Our supply chain tools at DP World London Gateway terminal streamline trade by combining advanced systems with 24/7 operations. Through providing full end-to-end visibility and real-time updates, we help you stay informed and prevent delays, as well as manage bookings of your containers to best suit your business schedules.

DP World’s works to construct a fifth berth at London Gateway are currently underway. The Berth 5 Quay works, which will establish the facility as the UK's largest container port, are being carried out by construction company McLaughlin & Harvey.

As part of these works, the contractor is using piling hammers to install steel tubular piles for a new quay wall. Mitigation measures to reduce noise have been implemented, such as a non-metal pad installed between the hammer and the top of the piles to limit associated noise. In addition, impact hammering must not take place for more than six hours (total) each day and must only take place between 07:00 – 21:00 Monday to Friday, 08:00 – 21:00 Saturday, or 10:00 – 21:00 Sunday. More details about the construction can be found at: https://www.mclh.co.uk/london-gateway-construction-works/
