DP World and Romanian Government sign in Bucharest MOU for future cooperation in the logistics sector
Date: 20/03/2019
Following the successful meetings between the parties back in October 2018 and the subsequent signing of the long term concession agreement to operate the Constanta South Container Terminal until 2049 back in March 2019, the parties are considering the potential of a relationship between them to explore the development of Romania’s logistics sector including the creation of inland container depots and intermodal platforms.
As such, March 17th during an official visit in Bucharest of the DP World delegation led by Chairman and Group CEO, Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, a memorandum of understanding was signed between DP World and the Romanian Ministry of Transportation to encourage future investment in Romania’s logistics and transportation sector.
The ceremony was attended by the Romanian Prime Minister Mrs. Viorica Dancila who commented on this occasion: “The visit of the UAE delegation in Romania and the signing of the memorandum with DP World open the way for a substantial presence of UAE companies in our country and for extensive investments in various economic sectors."
Subsequent to the ceremonial signing of the MOU, on the next day, March 18th, the representatives of DP World jointly with Romanian Government representatives attended a series of workshops to explore areas of common interest and future investment opportunities. The official visit comes as a natural follow-up after the recently signed extension of the long term concession agreement for DP World in Constanta.
DP World Constanta Managing Director Cosmin Carstea said:
"The signing of this MOU along with the productive work sessions that followed, are proof of the strong links between DP World and the Government of Romania. It also confirms our long-term engagement to set new standards in improving supply chains for our customers through smarter trading solutions and further developing terminal capabilities.
Mr. Carstea continued: “The show of confidence in DP World as a world-class partner with the best possible combination of assets, technology and skills, fits with our strategic aspirations for the region "
