General Terms and Conditions for the 5,000 Ton Floating Crane Naming Competition
1. Introduction
- The 5,000-Ton Floating Crane Naming Competition (“Competition”) is organized by Drydocks World Dubai FZCO, a wholly owned DP World Company, existing under the laws applicable to the Emirate of Dubai, and whose principal place of business is located at P.O Box 8988, Jumeirah Beach Road, Al Mina, Dubai, United Arab Emirates (“Organizer”).
- The purpose of the Competition is to invite Dubai residents to submit creative and meaningful names for a 5,000-ton floating crane (“Crane”) that embody cross-cultural appeal, strength, maritime heritage, innovation, and the UAE’s future vision.
- By entering the Competition Participants accept these terms and conditions together with any specific instructions and terms for such competition which may be mentioned in any electronic messages, or on the website, or communicated to entrants in any other way (“Terms”)
2. Eligibility
- The Competition is open to all legal residents of UAE, United Arab Emirates, who are at least 18 years of age at the time of entry. (“Participants”)
- The Organizer reserves the right to verify the eligibility of all Participants, including proof of Dubai residency (e.g., Emirates ID or other valid documentation).
3. Competition Period
- The Competition begins on 21 July 2025 and ends on 4 August 2025 (“Competition Period”).
- Entries submitted before or after the Competition Period will not be considered.
4. Competition Entry
- Participants must submit their proposed name for the Crane (“Entry”) via the official submission platform at www.dpworld.com/nameourcrane
- Each Entry must include:
- The proposed name for the Crane.
- A brief explanation describing how the name reflects cross-cultural appeal, strength, maritime heritage, innovation, and the UAE’s future.
- The Participant’s full name, contact details (phone number and email address).
- Entries must be original, created by the Participant, and not infringe on any existing trademarks, copyrights, or intellectual property rights.
- There is no fee to enter the Competition.
5. Submission Guidelines
- Entries must be in English or Arabic./li>
- The proposed name must reflect cross-cultural appeal and symbolize strength, maritime heritage, innovation, and the UAE’s future vision. Examples include names inspired by UAE’s maritime history, engineering achievements, or forward-looking aspirations.
- Entries must not:
- Contain offensive, defamatory, obscene, or inappropriate content.
- Violate any laws, regulations, or third-party rights.
- Include brand names, trademarks, or copyrighted material.
- The Organizer reserves the right to reject and disqualify any Entry that does not comply with these Terms or is deemed unsuitable at the Organizer’s sole discretion.
6. Intellectual Property
- By entering the Competition and submitting a name, each Participant irrevocably assigns to DP World and Organizer, all rights, title, and interest in and to the submitted name(s), including any intellectual property rights (either present or future) that may exist in the submission.
- Participants acknowledge and agree that they shall not retain any rights in their submission)(s) and waive any and all claims to ownership, authorship, attribution, moral rights, or compensation, whether now or in the future.
- DP World and Organizer shall have the unrestricted right to use, modify, reproduce, publish, license, assign, commercialise, or otherwise exploit the submitted name(s) for any purpose, including but not limited to branding, promotional activities, and other commercial or non-commercial uses, in perpetuity and worldwide, without further notice or compensation to the Participant.
- DP World and Organizer reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to adopt, adapt, modify, or disregard any submission without any obligation to the entrant, regardless of whether it is selected as a finalist or winner.
- By submitting a name, the Participant warrants and represents that the submission is their own original idea and not copied from any third party.
- By submitting a name, the Participant warrants and represents that the submission is not subject to any confidentiality or third-party obligations.
- All shortlisted submissions will be subject to intellectual property clearance searches prior to announcing a winner, including trade mark availability searches. DP World and Organizer reserves the right to reject any name, even after shortlisting or selection, if it is found to conflict with existing rights or is otherwise deemed unsuitable following legal review.
7. Selection
- Entries will be judged by a panel of experts appointed by the Organizer (“Judging Panel”) based on the following criteria:
- Cross-cultural appeal and relevance to Dubai’s diverse community.
- Representation of strength and maritime heritage.
- Embodiment of innovation and the UAE’s future vision.
- Creativity, clarity, and appeal of the name and explanation.
- The Judging Panel’s decision is final and binding, and no correspondence or appeals will be entertained.
8. Prizes
- The winner will receive a signed, full-size 2025 McLaren Racing driver helmet. (“Prize”).
- The Prize is non-transferable, non-exchangeable, and cannot be redeemed for cash or other alternatives unless expressly stated by the Organizer.
- The Organizer is not responsible for any additional costs associated with the Prize, including but not limited to travel, accommodation, or other expenses incurred to obtain the prize.
- Winners are responsible for any taxes or fees associated with the Prize, as per applicable UAE laws.
9.Winner Notification
- The winner will be notified via email and/or phone within 21 working days after the Competition Period ends.
- If the winner does not respond within 14 working daysl of notification, or is found to be ineligible, the Organizer reserves the right to select an alternative winner.
- The winner’s name and Entry may be published on the Organizer’s website, social media, or other platforms unless the winner explicitly requests anonymity.
10. Data Protection
- Personal information collected from Participants will be used solely for the purposes of administering the Competition, including verifying eligibility, contacting winners, and announcing results (if applicable).
- The Organizer will comply with all applicable data protection laws in the UAE, including the UAE Data Protection Law (Federal Decree-Law No. 45/2021).
- Personal data will not be shared with third parties except as necessary for Competition administration or as required by law.
- All personal data will be securely deleted immediately after the Competition concludes and winners are announced, unless Participants explicitly consent to future communications.
11. Liability and Indemnity
- The Organizer is not responsible for any lost, late, incomplete, or misdirected Entries, or for any technical failures that prevent participation.
- Participants agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Organizer, DP World, their affiliates, and respective employees from any claims, damages, or liabilities arising from their Entry or participation in the Competition.
- The Organizer is not liable for any injury, loss, or damage resulting from participation in the Competition or acceptance of the Prize, except as required by law.
12. General Conditions
- The Organizer reserves the right to cancel, suspend, or modify the Competition or these Terms at any time without prior notice, including due to unforeseen circumstances or events beyond its control.
- Any violation of these Terms may result in disqualification at the Organizer’s sole discretion.
- The Competition and these Terms are governed by the laws of the United Arab Emirates, and any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Dubai.
- If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue to be valid and enforceable.
