DP World, a global leader in smart logistics, stepped in to provide a bespoke customer-centric solution that transformed SailGP’s end-to-end operations.

Known as the “fastest race on water”, SailGP faced multiple logistics challenges, such as moving F50 catamarans and other time-sensitive equipment across different continents, each with its own international regulatory requirements, all while adhering to strict racing schedules.

The success of each race on SailGP’s global calendar depends on the seamless, uncompromised transportation of race boats, team supplies and technical equipment. SailGP required a comprehensive multimodal transportation solution that incorporates ocean, land and freight.

Without a tailored approach, the team preparations and commitments risked inefficiencies such as freight bottlenecks, customs clearance delays and a high carbon footprint.

DP World meticulously mapped out SailGP’s 13-race calendar to design a comprehensive, integrated logistics solution. A dedicated vessel was deployed for the season, ensuring consistent logistics support for all race locations. DP World also used its advanced, proprietary technology to create a control tower system that provides real-time tracking, invoicing and operational oversight. DP World personnel were stationed at race locations to preempt any disruptions and supervise the execution of the logistics. By integrating its global network of assets into this solution, DP World taps into its local teams to expedite customs clearance in the UAE and streamline port handling in the UK.

The results so far are impressive as DP World’s solution successfully facilitated 5 out of 13 races with zero logistics disruptions. By optimising freight movements, DP World reduced transportation costs, delivering direct savings to SailGP.

The creation of a control tower enhanced operational efficiency and is now a valuable software asset that supports SailGP’s daily operations.
