DP World Yarımca: Your point of solution for project cargo

Date: 03/06/2020

Global maritime industry continues to take new steps to curtail its environmental footprint. The latest of these measures is a landmark decision by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to reduce the maximum sulphur content allowed in marine fuels from 3.5 percent to 0.5 percent as part of its environmental regulatory framework as of January 1, 2020. The amendment has increased the number of scrubber handling operations at terminals worldwide.

TWELVE OPERATIONS IN ONE YEAR

Scrubbers, also known as gas washers, can be as big as 5m x 5m and weigh up to 22 tons. Large-scale projects in maritime and port operating businesses require a solid know-how and state-of-the-art equipment. With its extensive experience in project cargo handling, which is a challenging task, DP World Yarımca has carried out twelve scrubber handling operations since 2019.

UNLOADING IN 30 MINUTES

Scrubbers are unloaded in only 30 minutes with the help of slings. Scrubber parts, which are manufactured in the Far East, predominantly in China, are sent to Turkish shipyards for assembly. These parts, which are virtually impossible to carry by road, are sent in transit to the shipyards in Tuzla by sea after staying at DP World Yarımca for at least a month.
