SAFETY AND OPERATIONAL STANDARDS

Multimodal Solutions requires every haulier to appoint a dedicated Safety Champion within their organisation to be the main contact for all Health & Safety matters.
 

The Safety Champion is responsible for:
 

• Ensuring that drivers and vehicles conform to the personal, equipment, safety and behavioural standards of Multimodal Solutions
• Training drivers
• Recording and retaining proof of training
• Receiving and issuing individual Driver Training Identity Cards for trained drivers
• Briefing drivers on Safety Information and Alerts
• Reporting near misses and unsafe behaviours
• Investigating and responding to drivers/equipment non-conformances
• Reporting all accidents to P&O Ferrymasters
• Investigating all accidents 

Safety Principles are the minimum standards to be met for personal and operational safety, set with the objective of improving safety behaviour and performance.

At P&O Ferrymasters we use the terms Standards, Education and Behaviour.

What are the concerns or what can go wrong with Safety that results in accidents, can be broken down into 3 areas:

1) Standards – these are the rules or the methods of work or working practices – how should I do the job safely.

2) Induction, education and training – this is the method of communicating these standards to ensure the driver understands, and has the knowledge within them to complete their work safely.

3) Behaviour is then about the area that, the standard exists, the driver knows and understands the standard, so why haven’t they followed and complied with the standard?
