DP World Maputo Expands Regional Trade with New Bulk Chrome Exports from Zimbabwe

Date: 21/11/2025

We are delighted to celebrate the success of DP World Maputo with the launch of the first-ever rail service connecting Komatipoort, South Africa to Maputo, Mozambique.

The cargo is received and packed at the Maputo Intermodal Container Depot (MICD), with wagons stationed at Line 26, located nearby for operational efficiency.

After completing a successful trial, we are now moving forward with our third shipment. Since July, we have processed 88 containers, equivalent to 1,612 tonnes. This joint operation with MICD begins with the collection of empty containers, followed by inspection and packing at MICD. Our customs clearance partners are responsible for cargo and train agency services, while the train departs from Gweru, Zimbabwe.

DP World Maputo acts as the Transit Team responsible for booking with shipping lines, as well as for receiving and packing the cargo. This new service has brought a significant increase in the number of containers handled in transit, strengthening the cooperation between DP World Maputo and MICD.

Cargo Arrival and Offloading Process

  1. Parcel notification communication
  2. Wagon list confirmation
  3. Cargo tracking
  4. Stock management

We are confident that this new service marks the beginning of a promising chapter for regional trade and reinforces Maputo’s role as a strategic logistics hub.
