Supply chains across the United States are under increasing pressure to move faster, operate leaner and adapt more quickly to changing customer demand. As businesses look for more agile fulfillment strategies, the Northeast has become one of the country’s most critical logistics regions — and Central Pennsylvania is emerging as a major distribution hub within it.
To support this growing demand, DP World has expanded its operations in Middletown, Pennsylvania with a new multi-customer warehouse designed to provide scalable third-party logistics services for businesses across the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast.
The new 249,600-square-foot facility represents more than additional warehouse capacity. It reflects DP World’s broader strategy to deliver flexible, technology-enabled logistics solutions closer to customers while helping businesses navigate increasingly complex supply chain challenges.
A Strategic Location for Northeast Distribution
Location remains one of the most important factors in supply chain performance, particularly for companies serving densely populated Northeast markets.
Situated in Central Pennsylvania, the Middletown facility provides direct truck and rail access to major East and West Coast ports while enabling efficient delivery into key metropolitan areas throughout the region.
The site’s positioning allows businesses to improve delivery speed while reducing the operational costs often associated with larger coastal logistics markets. For companies managing regional distribution, eCommerce fulfillment, or omnichannel operations, the location offers a balance of connectivity, scalability, and operational efficiency.
Built for Flexible Third-Party Logistics Operations
The facility was specifically designed to support multi-customer logistics operations, allowing businesses to access enterprise-level fulfillment infrastructure without the burden of building or operating dedicated warehouse networks.
The warehouse supports a range of distribution models, including:
• Business-to-business fulfillment
• Direct-to-consumer shipping
• eCommerce operations
• Regional distribution
• Scalable shared warehousing
This flexibility is particularly valuable for small and medium-sized businesses seeking to expand their fulfillment capabilities while maintaining cost efficiency and operational agility.
Advanced Automation and Operational Readiness
Originally a high-volume electronics distribution center, the warehouse has been modernized with advanced logistics automation and operational technologies designed to improve throughput, accuracy and scalability.
The facility is expected to handle more than 10 million inbound and outbound units annually and support up to 200 full-time team members as operations continue to grow.
Security and operational integrity are also central to the facility’s design. The warehouse holds TAPA-A certification, reinforcing DP World’s commitment to secure inventory handling and high operational standards for customers managing valuable or sensitive goods.
Driving Sustainability Through Operational Innovation
The Middletown expansion also highlights DP World’s focus on continuous improvement and sustainability across its logistics operations.
In addition to launching the new multi-customer facility, DP World consolidated two smaller Pennsylvania operations into a second state-of-the-art 554,000-square-foot warehouse in Middletown.
That operation earned DP World’s Global Kaizen Award in Contract Logistics for its “Greenficiency” initiative — a project focused on improving efficiency while reducing environmental impact.
The initiative delivered measurable operational and sustainability improvements, including:
• A 34% reduction in cycle time
• A 54% increase in units processed per hour
• A 30% increase in handled volume
• Elimination of 2.1 tons of plastic waste
• A 74% reduction in cardboard usage
These results demonstrate how operational efficiency and sustainability can work together to create stronger, more resilient supply chains.
Supporting the Future of Regional Logistics
As consumer expectations continue to evolve and supply chain networks become more distributed, businesses are increasingly looking for logistics partners that can provide both scale and flexibility.
DP World’s continued investment in Pennsylvania reflects the company’s long-term commitment to strengthening logistics infrastructure across the Northeast while helping customers adapt to rapidly changing market conditions.
By combining strategic location, scalable fulfillment services, automation and sustainability initiatives, the Middletown operation is positioned to support businesses seeking faster, smarter and more resilient supply chain solutions across the region.
