DP World Santos launches new electronic sealing feature
Date: 20/05/2021
New technology for port operations will increase the agility of container shipping at the Port of Santos
DP World Santos, one of the largest and most modern private multi-purpose terminals in the country, installed on the left bank of the Port of Santos, is launching a new service for its customers. As of May, it is possible to acquire electronic seals for export containers to be shipped through the Terminal. The use of the electronic device eliminates the need for prior scheduling of the goods on the corporation's website.
All export containers need to be scheduled at the terminal using the current procedure. From the new seal, the customer will have the guarantee of a “window into delivery” at the time of convenience, as long as the opening period of the Gate and the cargo deadline are respected.
It is worth emphasizing that the seal is a mandatory item in export containers and required by the regulatory agencies. The automation and ease of the process for the customer are differential of the electronic version.
The reading of the seal is done by an intelligent sensor, which communicates with all operational systems of DP World Santos. As soon as the truck enters the terminal, the device is recognized both at the Gate and at the OCR (Optical Character Recognition) portal, where the first cargo screenings take place at the Port. It recognizes the container's data and already approves the vehicle's release with the terminal's operational system.
Each unit of the electronic seal may be purchased for R$ 362.00, at least 48 hours in advance, by e-mail [email protected].
Marcelo Procópio, Sales Manager of DP World Santos, explains that this system provides more security and comfort in meeting the demand of shipowners, exporters, and carriers. “We are offering one more option to our customers to facilitate export logistics. The shipping of the container may be better planned by the customers, with the adequacy of the truck fleet and its distribution for cargo delivery. The cargo will also be able to be shipped round-the-clock", he explains.
The new service is in line with the latest automations implemented by the terminal to facilitate processes and customer experience. In April, the corporation launched the
