DP World Welcomes Minister of Ports and Airports for Groundbreaking Ceremony of Terminal Expansion in Santos
Date: 21/08/2025
SANTOS, BRAZIL | AUGUST 21, 2025 – DP World welcomed on Thursday, August 21st, the Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho, and his delegation – alongside the Santos Port Authority President, Anderson Pomini, and other authorities, for the groundbreaking ceremony that marked the quay expansion works at Santos terminal on the left bank of the Port of Santos.
The project is part of PAC (Brazil's new Growth Acceleration Program) and integrates a cycle of investments made by the company that has already surpassed BRL 3 billion in infrastructure and technology since 2013, consolidating DP World as one of the most modern and comprehensive private multipurpose terminals in Brazil. During his visit, the Minister toured the area where the first piles were driven and spoke with port workers.
The expansion will add 190 linear meters to the current quay (totaling 1,290 meters), with 40 meters allocated to Berth 4 (dedicated to cellulose operations) and 150 meters to Berth 1 (focused on container operations). By early 2026, 175 piles will be driven, a stage that will allow the project to be completed by August 2026.
“The presence of Minister Silvio Costa Filho at our terminal reinforces the importance of this project for the future of Brazil’s logistics sector. The expansion of the quay strengthens the competitiveness of the Port of Santos and ensures greater capacity, efficiency, and sustainability to support different supply chains,” said Fabio Siccherino, CEO of DP World in Brazil.
With the expansion project, which also includes the acquisition of new equipment, the terminal’s handling capacity will increase to 1.7 million TEUs per year by 2026, further strengthening its strategic role as a hub for pulp exports and general cargo operations. In 2024, DP World Santos had already recorded throughput of more than 1.25 million TEUs, a 14% increase compared to the previous year. In addition, the company continues to invest in end-to-end logistics solutions, integrating port operations with freight forwarding, inland transportation, warehousing, and distribution, further enhancing logistics connectivity across the country.
