Our youth, tomorrow's leaders
We want to make cargo move faster and more efficiently across the global supply chain. One of the key links that connect this chain to its ultimate destination is people. This is why, we are working on educating the youth about a better trade future. After all, the children of today will be the trade leaders of tomorrow.
Moving forward - 2030 goals
In this last year we revisited our education strategy, to consider the changing nature of workplaces with innovation and digital skills literacy. A strategic review revealed that A 55% growth is expected in the demand for technological skills by 2030; while 65% of children today will work in jobs that do not currently exist.
In line with the findings of the strategic review, we established new targets for our 2030 education strategy: $40 million investment in education infrastructure (aligning to UN Sustainable Development goals 4a and 4c) Involving 2 million students in our educational projects Improvement of soft and digital skills development for 90% students.
A successful evaluation
“I have learned more and more here at DP World, and now I can see everything that was taught during classes on a daily basis. Working here is a dream come true. They showed us that everyone is capable of growing. I am very happy to be able to learn new things related to my work and also how the company operates. I want to acquire more knowledge and grow more professionally within the organisation” - Jonathan Silva Souza.
Jonathan Silva Souza participated in the first edition of our Global Education Program in 2017. He was one of the students from Monte Cabrao Public School, situated in the rural community area of Santos.
He attended modules taught by DP World volunteers about port operations and trade. During the program, Jonathan showed a lot of interest in joining the DP World Family. After a round of interviews, he was selected through the Young Apprentice Program in 2018.
He began by supporting back office tasks and assignments at our port in Santos and today, after showcasing an exceptional performance for two years as an apprentice, he now works full time as an Administrative Assistant in the terminal’s Customer Service Department.
