What is a Proof of Delivery in Logistics?

A proof of delivery (POD) is a document that confirms that goods have been received by the intended recipient in the expected condition. It ensures the delivery process is transparent and verifiable for both buyer and seller. The seller gains confirmation that the shipment has arrived, while the buyer can check that the goods match the order and are free from visible damage.

Components of a Proof of Delivery

A complete POD typically includes the following elements:

  • Recipient's signature, confirming the goods were received

  • Delivery date and time, documenting when the transfer occurred

  • Item description, listing the delivered products to verify accuracy

  • Condition of goods, noting any visible damage at the point of delivery
