Hustler
What is a Hustler?
A hustler, often called a yard tractor, is a purpose-built terminal vehicle used to move trailers and reposition containers over short distances within ports, container terminals, depots, and distribution yards. It’s designed for frequent stop-start work and tight manoeuvring in busy spaces, helping shift equipment quickly between gates, stacks, and loading bays so loading, unloading, and staging can keep moving.
Because yard operations are high-traffic and time-sensitive, safe use depends on disciplined routines as much as vehicle capability. Pre-shift checks (such as brakes, lights, tyres, and the coupling system), along with clear site rules and PPE, help protect operators and nearby teams. When run well, hustlers reduce idle time, support faster turnaround, and improve yard flow, which helps terminals handle higher volumes with fewer delays.
Key Features
Built for constant movement in confined yards, these vehicles prioritise agility, quick trailer connection, and strong sightlines to support safe, efficient handling.
Short wheelbase: Supports tight turning and better control in busy yard lanes.
Fifth-wheel coupling: Enables fast connect and disconnect with trailers to reduce hitching time.
Improved visibility: Cab design is optimised for better sightlines around people, equipment, and containers.
