Pre-Trip Inspections

What is a Pre-Trip Inspection?

A pre-trip inspection is a mandatory safety check carried out before a truck or trailer begins a freight movement. It confirms that critical systems such as brakes, tyres, lights, and steering are functioning properly, reducing the risk of breakdowns, delays, or safety incidents during transit.

Before a truck leaves for a pickup or delivery, a pre-trip inspection also supports shipment readiness, not just vehicle safety. It helps confirm the vehicle can handle the load as planned and that nothing on the equipment side will create delays once the freight is in motion.

  • Load suitability: Confirms the trailer type and condition match the freight (for example: reefer set-up, clean/dry interior, no floor damage).

  • Securement readiness: Checks tie-down points, straps, locks, and any load bars are available and fit for purpose before loading begins.

  • Handover reliability: Reduces the risk of missed appointment windows at ports, terminals, warehouses, or customer sites caused by preventable equipment issues.
