DP World Santos signs agreement with city of Santos to benefit public school students
Date: 07/02/2019
DP World Santos, one of Brazil’s largest and most modern private port terminals, situated on the left bank of the Port of Santos, has entered into an Agreement with the Municipal Government of Santos that will benefit 13,000 students at 30 municipal schools through the “Innovative Schools” project. The initiative involves renovating libraries and installing technological centers, the so-called “tech studios.” The agreement will be signed on Saturday, February 2, during the inauguration of the Creative Village at Morro da Penha, which will be attended by company representatives and the city’s mayor, Paulo Alexandre Barbosa.
The measure, which calls for investment of R$6 million, complements the initiatives adopted by the company under the scope of its Social, Environmental and Educational Programs, as a result of the upgrades to the facilities of DP World Santos’ port complex for pulp handling. Port logistics facilities dedicated to the storage, movement and loading of pulp will be built on the site.
The “Innovative Schools” project aims to introduce technology in schools and to adapt the school’s curriculum and environment to the real-world situation experienced by students outside of school. It also will enable students to develop 21st century skills, helping to ensure a more modern and complete education. The initiative consists of two fronts. The first is the renovation of existing libraries in schools, which will be completely revamped with new furniture and receive digital equipment. The second is the installation of a tech studio, a new space featuring technological centers with different digital equipment, such as computers, tablets, data show and printers. The space will be available to all teaching staff as an option for improving classes in any subject.
The projects to renovate the libraries and install the tech studios actively involved the school community, which were able to incorporate students’ and teachers’ expectations through co-creation workshops with the team designing the spaces.
Morro da Penha Creative Village delivered to public
Another project supported by DP World Santos, the Tourist, Cultural & Sports Center – Morro da Penha Creative Village, will be delivered to the people of Santos on Saturday, February 2. A four-story, 1,250-square-meter building located on Rua Brigadeiro Newton Braga, 39, the space will benefit over 2,000 local residents in various age-brackets, who will be able to enjoy a modern space for leisure and social activities.
With a unique structure, the covered area of the first floor will feature an administration room, secretary’s office, a gym, playroom and bathrooms (men’s, women’s and for people with special needs). With over 500 square meters of outdoor area, the new Creative Village features spaces for socializing, a playground and a bike rack.
The first floor has a computer and a multi-purpose room, as well as an auditorium with 80 seats. The second floor has two multi-purpose rooms and an experimental kitchen with sink, cupboards and counters, as well as a cafeteria, pantry and storeroom.
