The Port of Tarragona benefits from the connections provided by its high-value, geo-strategic location as a major crossroads. With its position on the Mediterranean Corridor and as a natural point of access to Spain’s interior along the Ebro Valley, Tarragona is an unavoidable waypoint for many of the routes that join the Northern and Southern ports, whether by road or by rail. It also provides easy links with primary commercial and industrial destinations throughout the Iberian peninsula.

Major hub for the chemical industry
Tarragona is home to a cluster of more than 100 chemical companies within a 15-kilometre radius, the basis of its reputation as the industry's Southern European hub. Direct rail connections with the industrialised areas of Northern Europe and the natural export point of DP World Tarragona have helped consolidate the industry’s significant presence in the region. Other sectors with a major presence in the port’s hinterland include:
- Agriculture and food products
- Industrial and consumer goods
- Furniture
