DP World boosts Sydney Terminal operations with AUD35m gantry investment
Date: 14/03/2023
Five Rubber Tyred Gantries (RTGs) added to enhance terminal operations and service reliability
The new RTGs will provide 40% greater fuel efficiency and lower emissions while improving safety
DP World today welcomed five new Kalmar Rubber Tyred Gantries (RTGs) at its Sydney Terminal, doubling the size of its fleet of cranes to improve operational performance at one of Australia’s key cargo terminals.
The Sydney Terminal will now operate 10 of Kalmar’s latest generation of RTGs, after an AUD 35 million (USD 23 million) investment. This is part of DP World’s ongoing renewal programme to boost efficiency and service reliability at its terminals nationwide to support customers with modern, innovative solutions and facilitate trade opportunities for the Australian supply chain.
The new machines will provide 40% greater fuel efficiency and lower emissions, contributing to DP World’s global commitment to building more sustainable operations. They can also handle 20ft and 40ft containers with a lifting capacity of 41 tonnes, delivering enhanced performance and reliability when transporting large volumes of cargo. Additional features include improved serviceability, lighting, cameras, and laser sensors for greater operational safety.
The five RTGs were delivered fully assembled and pre-commissioned to reduce the time needed to enter service and are expected to be fully operational by mid-April 2023.
Andrew Adam, Country CEO, DP World Australia, said, “DP World is constantly innovating and developing new services and capabilities to unlock trade wherever it flows. The continued investment in our infrastructure will not only boost productivity and service reliability for our customers, but also reinforces our ability to deliver consistent operational performance to service the Australian market and contribute to local economic growth and competitiveness.”
