A Bold Step Forward for Mozambique and the Region

A Bold Step Forward for Mozambique and the Region

Date: 02/05/2025

We’ve just taken a proud and bold step forward in shaping the future of trade/shipping in Sub-Saharan Africa.

The expansion will also incorporate:

  1. Revamping the Yard and Quay, to increase capacity from 255,000 TEUs to 530,000 TEUs.
  2. In addition to the existing Mobile Harbor Cranes (MHC), we will have the introduction of 3 Post Panamax - Ship to Shore Cranes (STS) with an outreach of 23 rows across the vessel.
  3. We will also increase the Rubber Tyred Gantry cranes in the terminal.
  4. The Reefer plug capacity will be increased from 450 to 715 plugs.
  5. Upgrade of the gate facilities, reducing the port turnaround time.
  6. Introduction of new facilities for our people, to accommodate additional staff, ensuring their wellbeing and continuous Labour force availability.
  7. Improvement of security processes, through broader coverage using new CCTV technologies. A new DP World Komatipoort and rail connection with the Maputo terminal will enable faster and smoother movement of transit cargo between Maputo and South Africa.

This strategic investment is not only about infrastructure — it’s about impact:

  • Creating gateways that connect African markets to global trade.
  • Generating local jobs that build economic resilience.
  • Forging partnerships that drive innovation and sustainable growth.

At DP World, we believe in building with purpose. The expansion of DPW Maputo Container Terminal is a testament to our long-term commitment, to unlock Africa’s trade potential and contributing meaningfully to Mozambique’s economic future.
