Developed by DP World Yarımca and Minding My Waste Foundation in collaboration with academicians from Kocaeli University’s Faculty of Education, Minding My Waste Training content is now available to private school teachers on its namesake portal. Public school teachers can access the same training via the Ministry of National Education’s Teachers’ Informatics Network.

Portal offers rich content to help private primary school teachers

Through face-to-face and online instructor trainings, the training programme, which has been developed for 3rd graders, reached approximately 800 teachers and 15,000 students in its pilot phase. As part of a protocol signed with the Ministry of National Education’s General Directorate for Teacher Training and Development in April 2022, the training has been approved to be added to the Teachers' Informatics Network, which will allow all 3rd grade teachers working at public schools across Turkey to have access to its content. Private school teachers, on the other hand, will access the same training via the Minding My Waste Training Portal.

Built around 12 activities based on observation and experience, the portal content consists of training materials and videos as well as texts and tutorials where all activities are explained in detail. In order to access this content, private school teachers simly need to fill out the registration form on the site. Once teachers complete the instructor training, they will be able to conduct trainings in the classroom, using the materials available on the portal.

Everyone can mind their waste

Minding My Waste Training Portal also includes a “peer-to-peer learning” section for citizens who want to learn more about littering and waste problem in the world and in Turkey and to share what they learn with others. In this context, the portal includes instructional and informative videos and presentations under the title "For Everyone". Membership is not required to use this public section of the portal.

We are happy that Minding My Waste Project has gone nationwide

“We are very happy to see that, following classroom trainings and the launch of our mobile game Zero the Waste, our project Minding My Waste, which we initiated in 2019, has now reached a new level where it will connect with a broader audience,” DP World Yarımca CEO Kris Adams said. Underlining the importance of building recycling and waste management awareness among children, who will be the decision-makers of the future, Adams added, “Through trainings at schools, our project has helped thousands of children gain awareness. At DP World Yarımca, we believe that training educators is as important as educating children for a better future. To this end, we have launched the Minding My Waste Training Portal, which can be easily accessed by all educators across Turkey. With this portal, private school teachers will have access to our training program just like their colleagues in state schools. Indeed, the portal will be available to anyone who wants to learn about recycling and waste management.”

Solution is possible with collective efforts

Pointing out that the only producer of waste is human beings, Mind Your Waste Foundation General Manager, Emrah Bilge said, “In order to stop this, it is very important to consume sustainably, get waste production under control and dispose waste properly, making sure to sort recyclable ones. Children are the consumers and decision makers of the future. For this reason, we believe it is very important to raise such environmental awareness and culture among them. We adults also need to change our current habits and leave a cleaner world for children. So, everyone should mind their waste. We have no time to waste”, inviting teachers to visit www.copumesahipcikiyorum.org to check out the portal and become a member.
