Location

Constanta is the largest container port in the Black Sea and, with its strategic position at the mouth of the Danube Canal, is connected via Europe's second longest river into the heartland of the Eastern and Central Europe.Constanta South Container Terminal is situated on the west coast of the Black Sea, at about 170 nautical miles North-West of the Bosphorus, 250 km east of BucharestDANUBE TRANSIT TRAFFICIn contrast to other rivers in Europe, the volume of container shipments on the Danube has not been of much significance up to now. In the light of the double digit growth rates in the global transport of goods over the last years and the chronic capacity bottlenecks at Europe's major ports and connecting routes in their hinterland, now would be the right time for establishing container transport along the Danube with Constanta as the gateway. The cost benefits of using inland vessels specialised in container transport are significant. A look at the entire supply chain for Europe-Asia shipments shows that the frequently cited long transport times are not an obstacle. Moreover, as the environmental impact balance is positive, a win-win situation is possible for all involved.Adjacent to the Danube – Black Sea Canal, DP World Constanta currently handles 1 barge service.
