DP World Novi Sad has commenced construction of a new container terminal, a vertical quay, and a silo for storing cereals in the port of Novi Sad.

The project is part of the continued 30 million euros investment DP World has committed to at its Novi Sad terminal and the most significant proportion of the investment to date.

A ground-breaking ceremony attended by Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, Tomislav Momirović, and Mayor of Novi Sad, Miloš Vučević, took place on Friday (13th), where Claudiu Negreanu, General manager of DP World Novi Sad, presented the plans for the development and a vision of the port once work is complete.

Mr Negreanu believes the fully developed port will result in Novi Sad having a compelling proposition that will be unique in the Serbian market.

He said: “Transport and logistics have never been more important for the world we live in today. Experience also tells me that it has never been so difficult to combine the old proven methods of transporting goods with the modern technology led methods that allow us to constantly improve to ensure that  goods reach different markets and customers quickly, efficiently and sustainably.

“That is why DP World, as the leading provider of worldwide smart end-to-end supply chain logistics, is taking this historic step for the port of Novi Sad”.

This latest project follows other significant investments that are changing the face and the future of the port.

Mr Negreanu added: "The development work that got underway today, along with our previous renovation of the passenger terminal and the new cranes and other equipment we have invested in, will create an intermodal terminal on that Danube we believe will benefit not only Serbian market, but also the region and beyond.”

Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Tomislav Momirović said that the port of Novi Sad is one of the most important Danube ports in Europe and certainly one of the most important in Serbia:

"In order to further develop the Port of Novi Sad, and in the interest of the overall economy of Serbia, we have established cooperation with one of the largest port operators in the world, DP World, which has committed to invest 30 million euros in the development of the Port of Novi Sad."

“In two years, the first container terminal will be built on this part of the Danube, which will be of great importance for the development of logistics and the economy in Serbia. Also, 9 silos will be built, which will offer the Port of Novi Sad, for the first time in history, a storage service that is of great importance for the development of the agro-industry. The development of the port of Novi Sad is part of a large investment plan for investments in water transport, whose value today is almost half a billion euros. The most significant investments are in the development of port infrastructure ", said Momirović.

Mayor of Novog Sada Miloš Vučević said that DP World's investment will improve private capacities and enable easier transport of goods from Novi Sad to all destinations:

“I am glad that in these difficult times, DP World's business activity is not declining. They pay taxes, and we use that money to build kindergartens and pave the streets, everything is very connected. Danube ‘Corridor 7’ is becoming increasingly important for the economy and tourism, and as I keep here from the authorities, the balance of imports and exports is balanced, which contributes to the good position of Novi Sad and this strong agricultural region - said Vučević. said that the port of Novi Sad is one of the most important Danube ports in Europe and certainly one of the most important in Serbia.”
