ONE-STOP SOLUTION

A PIVOTAL HUB

When we opened an inland port in the Rwandan capital of Kigali, we helped trade flow more easily through warehousing, faster turnaround times for goods, and streamlined customs clearance. We also created a logistics hub between the heart of Africa and the East African ports of Mombasa and Dar es Salaam. Our port has helped reduce congestion while improving regional connectivity, and its strategic location enables us to serve both regional and international markets, including the African Continental Free Trade Area.

BUILDING RWANDA'S FUTURE

Stories of workers and entrepreneurs expanding trade and opening new opportunities through agriculture, logistics and our global supply chains.

Grace Shimi is Breaking Barriers in Logistics

When Grace Shimi decided to become a forklift operator, she was told it wasn’t a job for women. “People said I would never succeed,” she says. “They said it’s for men.” She chose to prove them wrong.

Today, Grace is one of only two female forklift operators at DP World in Kigali, moving heavy and fragile goods safely through a busy logistics environment.

Her role requires precision, focus, and confidence while handling loads of up to 16 tonnes and ensuring safety at every step.

“At first, I was afraid,” she admits. “But now I am confident. I love what I do.” Training has played a key role in that journey. Through hands-on experience and safety programmes, she developed the skills needed to operate machinery and work in a high-responsibility environment.

Beyond the job itself, the impact has been personal.

Grace is the main income earner in her household, supporting her mother and covering daily needs. Through her work, she has also been able to save and invest in land, building financial security for the future.

“This job has helped me grow,” she says. “It changed my life.”

But her ambition goes further. She hopes to operate even larger equipment in the future and continue building her career.

More importantly, she wants to change perceptions. “I want to show that women can do this,” she says. “We are capable.”

As Rwanda’s logistics sector grows, stories like Grace’s highlight how opportunity is expanding not just in scale, but in who gets to participate.

Cross-Border Trade Efficiency

The Rubavu Logistics Hub on Rwanda’s western border with the DRC was opened in 2025. It streamlined customs procedures, reduced border delays & lowered costs, making the hub accessible to SMEs & cooperatives.

Cold Chain Meets International Standards

By offering a cold-storage facility and pack house, we have enabled farmers to access international markets for perishables from avocados to chillies. This enhances both economic and social growth.

Health and Safety

We have introduced international health and safety standards for our workers, adhering to the slogan “Safety First”. This helps protect our staff and ensure overall safety by educating people about the importance of workplace safety.
