First of it’s kind report shows UAE private sector’s untapped potential for employee volunteering

March 11th, 2019 marks the 4th gathering of Impact 2030 partners and UAE CSR & Sustainability leaders in the region alongside a release of the first of its kind report initiated by DP World and partners Emirates NBD and Grant Thornton under UN’s IMPACT2030 initiative.

IMPACT2030, co-convened with the United Nations Office of Partnerships, brings together leaders from across the private sector together with representatives from the social and public sectors, to better understand and explore the immeasurable capacity of voluntary contributions through employee volunteering schemes, to advance the Sustainable Development Goals.

Through IMPACT2030, we believe that we can significantly increase our collective impact on the Sustainable Development Goals. Anchored by Sustainable Development Goals No. 17, Partnerships for the Goals, IMPACT2030 has the unique mission to activate human capital investments globally through pro-bono, skills-based and direct employee volunteer programs to advance the Sustainable Development.

The programme for the day was quite comprehensive, involving a presentation of the results from the world’s first regionally focused report on the capacity of employee volunteering to meaningfully contribute to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals. According to the report, “Investing for the Future: The Practice and Potential of Employee Volunteering in the UAE”, as many as 90 per cent of companies surveyed reported alignment with the SDG programme, with 71 per cent of them actively working to gather impact data across metrics of productivity, employee well-being, employee engagement and impact on the community partner.

Some of the reoccurring themes from the event included partnerships and collaboration in the region, best practice and investing with impact through employee volunteering. The programme included engaging dialogue with the Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Authority (FCSA), Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Expo 2020 and a panel of knowledgeable speakers from DP World, Injaz, Dubai Cares, Emirates NBD, P&G and UPS.
