DP World Limassol welcomes Salamis “Vassilios” ferry on its maiden call

Limassol, Cyprus, July 21 , 2021: DP World Limassol welcomed Salamis car ferry Ro-Ro ‘Vassilios’ on its maiden call at the Limassol port on Monday, 19 July 2021. Upon its arrival, the vessel was warmly received by DP World Limassol’s Operation Superintendent who exchanged plaques with the captain.

The 21,000-ton roll-on, roll-off ferry joined Salamis fleet last May and will be operating the weekly Thessaloniki-Limassol route from the Limassol port. The vessel was built in 1990 and was refurbished shortly before its arrival to Cyprus, while it was named “Vassilios” after the founder of Salamis Group, Mr. Vassos Hadjitheodosiou.

On behalf of Salamis, its General Manager Mr Kikis Vassiliou noted that "the Ro-Ro ‘Vassilios’ is the latest addition to the Salamis fleet. It was named in memory of our founder Mr Vassos Hadjitheodosiou and falls within the scope of the shipping activities of the organisation. We Salamis are constantly upgrading our vessel and transport fleet, in order to offer additional services to the traders and local communities of Cyprus, Greece and Israel. Salamis already operates a weekly service with two other Ro-Ro vessels and one container vessel, connecting the ports of Thessaloniki, Lavrio, Limassol Haifa and Ashdod. We would like to thank DP World Limassol for its cooperation up until today and look forward to further enhancing our partnership.”

In statements, DP World Limassol’s CEO Mr Nawaf Abdulla said “We are delighted to welcome RoRo ferry vessel “Vassilios” to its new home at the Limassol port and we would like to congratulate Salamis for this addition to their fleet. Due to its strategic location, the Limassol port is of high importance for the region’s freight transportation flows, while it is ideal for roll-on-roll-off logistics as well as for the storage and transhipment of vehicles.”

It should be noted that Roll-On/Roll-Off vessels are an important part of our terminal business at Limassol Port. DP World Limassol focuses on providing fast turnaround times and sustainable maritime transport services that enable smart trade while offering unprecedented customer experience and reliability. Taking this opportunity, I would like to thank Salamis once again for trusting us in DP World Limassol Terminal, and our team look forward to continue their efforts to strengthen our partnership going forward”, added Mr Abdulla.
