Bus tour at the terminal 

 Visitors can discover the container terminal of DP World at the Deurganckdok in the Waasland port by means of an instructive bus tour at the terminal with audio guide past the impressive cranes, ships and terminal operations. There is a separate tour for technical profiles and job candidates can visit the job corner. There is a restaurant in the parking lot and for children there is a bouncy castle. 

DP World enables trade all over the world and has activities in every link of the logistics chain, with a worldwide network of 190 companies. In the Waasland port, DP World operates the Antwerp Gateway terminal with an empty depot (storage zone for empty containers) at the Deurganck dock, with about 750 employees. 

DP World loads and unloads thousands of containers from all over the world every day at the deep-sea terminal, thus forming an important link between shipping companies and transport by road, water and rail. It is a coming and going of trucks, trains, barges and vessels. 

DP World focuses on innovative digital solutions and uses the most modern and sustainable machines, such as hybrid straddle carriers, towering bridge cranes of the latest generation and fully automatic stacking cranes, which are unique in the port of Antwerp. 

Extra container capacity in the port of Antwerp 

In the coming years, DP World will significantly expand its container capacity by stacking smarter and higher using the latest technologies. An ambitious investment plan of 200 million euros should turn Antwerp Gateway into a state-of-the-art container terminal that will reach its maximum density in 2026. By then 80% of the terminal will be fully automated and electrified and the capacity will have increased by almost 1 million container units. DP World achieves this with the help of automatic stacking cranes or ASCs, which can stack containers higher and closer together. This autumn, 2 of a total of 17 new ASC modules will be put into use. New cranes and hybrid straddle carriers are also on the way. 

Leader in sustainability in the port of Antwerp 

DP World aims to generate as much electricity as possible itself using a windmill and biogas plant on the site. Together they supply more than 80 percent of the terminal's electricity needs. By replacing classic straddle carriers with hybrid machines and further automating and electrifying the terminal, Antwerp Gateway was able to halve its CO2 emissions in eight years. In the coming years, DP World will continue this process to become net zero carbon by 2050.

New office building and straddle carrier parking since this year 

Earlier this year, DP World inaugurated its brand new and sustainable office building with annex straddle carrier parking. The modern building is a fine example of architecture with facilities for dock and office workers. Together with the building, a self-designed, highly secure straddle carrier infrastructure was put into use. This allows the drivers to safely enter their machine by means of a fixed staircase, and to easily clean and inspect their machine. In addition, a brand new pump and refueling installation is attached to the car park, which allows safe inflation of tires and efficient refueling.
